Happy Halloween

We had a great time this Halloween with the girls. Matigan was excited about all the festivities (for the most part) and it was such fun to introduce her to the holiday rituals. We went to a local Pumpkin patch where we picked out our very own "pumpkin balls".


We carved (read: Ryan carved) two pumpkins which Matigan called "happy and sad". She picked out the faces from her Five Little Pumpkins book. Sarah had such fun watching.Matigan figured out that Halloween night yields candy! All week she said "I want to go get candy now". She knew that if she knocked on a door and said "trick or treat" she'd likely get a treat.

Matigan really wanted to be Minnie Mouse for Halloween (at least that is what she said, but we knew she didn't fully understand what we were asking her), but mom failed to find a costume at any of the local stores and with two kids under 3, my creativity didn't help me make one. However, I did tell Matigan that she could be Minnie Mouse dressed up like a pumpkin and she loved that idea! Besides, what could be cuter than two little pumpkins?



Ryan's parents came down for the fun-filled night and loved heading out with Matigan. Ryan's dad brought his Wolverine costume and Ryan wore it for about... 4 minutes!While Trick-or-treating Matigan was a bit cautious walking up to various houses, but she would knock once and say "trick-or-treat" to the closed door and walk away. By the end of the evening however, she figured it all out and LOVED getting her pumpkin filled with candy!

All in all Halloween was a great success. For the first time we can recall from all of our years living in Colorado (30+) it was warm on Halloween night! The temps were in the 50's which was such a treat for all of us!

Matigan is still asking for candy today and we're sure that will continue through high school. It's tough to explain to a 2 1/2 year old that she can't eat only candy all the time and that Halloween only comes once a year... At least we have Thanksgiving to promote soon!!
